What type of
sweetener does ZamLows use in their products?
ZamLows uses
maltitol in the manufacturing of its sugar free and no sugar
added bakery products. Maltitol is defined as a sugar alcohol.
Most artificial sweeteners ending in “ol” are sugar alcohols.
In reality, these sweeteners are not sugar and are not alcohol.
However, they are referred to as sugar alcohols. These
sweeteners provide the bulk and sweetness of sugar and corn
syrup, but are not completely absorbed in the intestine. Thus,
they provide fewer calories and carbs than sugar, they result in
a much slower, and smaller rise in blood sugar and insulin
levels in the body. They are generally recognized as safe for
diabetics to consume. Sugar alcohols do not promote oral
bacteria, and thus do not cause tooth decay. It is recommended
to eat products sweetened with sugar alcohols in moderation.
They are not completely absorbed in the intestine, and can
potentially cause a laxative effect. ZamLows promotes only
eating the serving size…not overindulging. If sugar alcohols
are eaten at a minimum, the negative impact is also held to a
minimum. However, God made each of us special individuals.
And, the impact of sugar alcohols on each individual person will
differ based on your makeup. So, our suggestion is to eat a
very small sample first to determine the impact on your sugar
level and digestively. And, then, you will know the impact on
you as an individual. We hope you thoroughly enjoy your ZamLows
dessert! |
